A Century-old Legacy
A sip of history awaits in every cup of Arabaga Turkish Coffee, a brand that has been brewing tradition for nearly a century. We had the pleasure of meeting Ezgi and Kemal Ucar at Business EXPO25, where they graciously invited us to experience their family's remarkable coffee heritage. What we discovered was a story worth sharing with our readers—a tale of cultural connection, immigrant entrepreneurship, and a commitment to preserving tradition while embracing the future.
A Century of Heritage
Traditionally, Turkish coffee was ground at home. Their grandfather, Nuri Ucar, who immigrated from Crete to Mersin in 1924, transformed this cherished tradition into a successful business in 1926. Naming his brand Arabaga after his own nickname, he built his own roasting facility, and soon, Arabaga became Mersin's favourite coffee, embodying the city's diverse cultural mosaic.
Mersin, a lovely city at the south coast of Türkiye, became a bustling port city at the end of the 19th century for the immigrants from across the Mediterranean. Within this melting pot, Arabaga Coffee served as more than just a beverage—it became a bridge, fostering cultural connections and bringing communities together over shared cups and conversations.
Bringing Tradition to the World
As the third generation representing Arabaga, the Ucar Family's mission is to share this precious legacy with the world through Arda Trend Ltd, their company recently founded in the UK. Committed to authenticity, Arda Trend fosters cross-cultural connections by expanding the traditional coffee experience and seamlessly blending heritage with modern culture. Arabaga Turkish Coffee is available in 250g tins through the company's website at www.ardatrend.uk and on Amazon UK. Since the beginning of 2025, the brand has been expanding to physical retail locations, with updates shared on their Instagram account @arabaga_coffee. The coffee is also exported across Europe and available on Amazon.fr and Amazon.de.
Challenging Perceptions, One Cup at a Time
Ezgi and Kemal Ucar are on a mission to challenge the common misconception that Turkish coffee is always "too strong." By introducing their carefully crafted medium roast, they're demonstrating that this UNESCO-listed tradition offers beautiful variations in flavour and intensity.
"It was amazing to watch hesitation turn into delight after just one sip, with some first-time converts even coming back for a second round," says Ezgi Ucar with evident pride.
Kemal Ucar emphasizes their dedication to quality: "We have been roasting and grinding carefully selected Arabica beans with the same passion and precision since my grandfather founded the business a century ago." As one of the few century-old brands from their hometown, the trust of Arabaga's loyal customers motivates the Ucar Family to introduce this culture and smooth taste to coffee lovers worldwide via the UK.
More Than a Beverage
As a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage, Turkish coffee represents more than just a drink—it's a ritual, a moment of connection, and a celebration of hospitality. Arabaga has elevated this experience through its rich story, its connection across generations, and the role it has played as a bridge between different cultures throughout its century-long journey.
Welcome to the Arabaga family—a community built on a century of trust, care, and shared moments. Whether you're a Turkish coffee connoisseur or a curious first-timer, we invite you to experience the signature foam, feel the smooth finish, and taste their story in every sip. This is coffee with a past, present, and a promising future.
